This project focused on designing a versatile travel bag that adapts to users dynamic needs on the go. The concept merges functionality and comfort, allowing the bag to transform into a pillow for rest during travel, while also offering adjustable straps that convert it from a shoulder bag to a backpack. The goal was to create a product that balances utility, portability, and comfort—ideal for commuters, students, and travelers.

Sketching

The sketching phase focused on exploring creative solutions that combined portability, comfort, and transformation. Initial concepts examined how the bag could shift seamlessly between pillow, shoulder bag, and backpack formats.

Through quick ideation and hand-drawn iterations, the form, strap placement, and folding mechanics were refined to prioritize user ease and intuitive interaction. This phase allowed for rapid testing of various shapes, zipper locations, and strap configurations while keeping the visual language clean and modern.

During the prototyping phase, a fully functional version of the transformable bag was constructed using selected materials to simulate the final product. The prototype was tested over the course of a week in real daily travel conditions, carrying various personal items to evaluate durability, comfort, and usability. This hands-on testing allowed users to interact with the bag in all three configurations—pillow, shoulder bag, and backpack—helping identify areas for refinement in transitions, weight distribution, and strap comfort.

The prototype also demonstrated the material’s resistance to wear, proving it could withstand prolonged and frequent use without compromising on flexibility or appearance. The insights gathered validated the design’s functionality and confirmed that the product could successfully meet the demands of users with active, mobile lifestyles.
